bolt out of the blue

black skies, white lightning,
tell me: what would you do
if suddenly you were struck
by a bolt out of the blue?

would you run and hide?
shut tight your eyes?
convince yourself
it weren’t true?

or would you breathe
a breath of peace,
and in one exhale
all your endless fears undo?

for everyone, some simple day,
the world must bid adieu.
so what if that day arrives
